Allen Eugene "Gene" Barto

Allen Eugene "Gene" Barto, 85, of Tiffin, died at 8:20 p.m. Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, at The Willows at Tiffin.

He was born April 10, 1938, in Seneca County, to Oral and Alice (Longanbach) Barto. He first married Jane Heckerd on Sept. 5, 1957, in Tiffin, and she died July 4, 2023. He married Patricia L. McCoy on Oct. 20, 1988, in Indiana, and she survives.

Gene's other survivors include a son, Rodney A. (Christi) Barto of Crystal River, Florida; daughter, Michele (Dale) Sopher of Paola, Kansas; stepdaughter, Cathy McClung of Catawba; seven grandchildren, Ashlee, Austin, Jared, Kyle, Abigail, Cole, and Megan; brother, Larry Barto of Davidson, North Carolina; and four sisters, Doris Dull of Ft. Seneca, Bonnie Hull of Old Fort, Debora Barto of Fresno, California, and Rebecca Berry of Green Springs.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Lorilee Rose Barto; and sister, Joanne Hirt.

Gene was a 1957 graduate of Old Fort High School and served in U.S. Army Reserves. He was a farmer from 1958-2003 and was a basketball coach for many years for area youth who were honing their skills.

There will be no visitation or funeral.
