1951 - 2024
Anthony Wayne Dolsberry, Sr., lovingly known as “Sug,” was born on February 26, 1951, in Suffolk, Virginia, to Castoria Dolsberry and King Lloyd Taylor. He departed this life peacefully on November 1, 2024, surrounded by his devoted family. Anthony’s warmth, humor, and unwavering love touched everyone he met.
A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School in 1969, Anthony continued to demonstrate his dedication to service by joining the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, achieving the rank of lance corporal. In 1971, he married the love of his life, Gloria Johnson Dolsberry, with whom he built a family and shared countless cherished memories.
Anthony was a hard worker, dedicating years to Furgerson Manufacturing Company and Commonwealth Storage while nurturing dreams of business ownership. In 1986, he proudly established Dolsberry Trucking LLC, fulfilling his entrepreneurial aspirations and creating a lasting legacy.
He had a deep love for animals, particularly his loyal Doberman Pinscher, “Stud,” who remained by his side, offering companionship and protection. Anthony found joy in restoring old vehicles, riding his motorcycles, catching up on the latest news, and enjoying a good meal. He was a master of giving everyone he knew a quirky nickname and never ended a conversation without the phrase, “With the help of the Lord.” His faith was a cornerstone of his life and brought him peace in all he did.
Anthony was predeceased by his mother, father, grandparents Eva Mae (Smallwood) and Alphonso Dolsberry, grandparents Georgianna Reid and Burl Taylor, and his sister, Brenda Wilson.
He leaves to carry on his legacy four children, Anthony Dolsberry Jr., Travis Arrington, Toni Arrington, and Christinea Arrington, all of Suffolk, Virginia. His memory lives on in his eight grandchildren, Da Marion, Kyle, Mariah, Tomiah, Makiah, Paris, Amyra, and LaDarius Burke, and his great-grandchild, Asani Ntezinde. He is survived by his sisters, Valerie and Laurna Taylor of Suffolk; two aunts, Charlotte Dolsberry and Dorothy Smith; his uncle, Alphonso Dolsberry; his sister-in-law, Johnells Porter; and his lifelong friend, Donna Arrington. His family also includes many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will continue to honor his memory.
Anthony will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend who brought light, laughter, and love to those around him. His presence, guidance, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed and cherished forever.
