Sister Barbara Jean Miller

Sister Barbara Jean Miller, 71, of the Sisters of St. Francis of Tiffin, died at 4:50 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at St. Francis Home.

She was born Feb. 8, 1952, in Bellevue, to Julius and Marjorie (Keller) Miller.

She is survived by her mother; two sisters, Rosemary Yanik and Joanna (Tim) Harris; and two brothers, Roger (Michele) Miller and Larry Miller.

She was preceded in death by her father; stepfather, Jack Campbell; and brother-in-law, Michael Yanik.

Sister Barbara Jean became a Sister of St. Francis on Aug. 31, 1975, and made her final profession Aug. 16, 1981. She received her Master of Arts from Duquesne University, Pittsburgh.

Sister Barbara Jean taught at St. Mary High School in Paducah, Kentucky, St. Bernard School in New Washington, and St. John School in Delphos. She served as Pastoral Associate and Music Director at St. Anthony Parish, Milan and a Pastoral Associate at St. Peter, Upper Sandusky, St. Mary Parish, Kirby, and St. Joseph, Plymouth. She then served her community as Vocation Director until her death.

Sister Barbara Jean loved life, people, and music. She was talented as a guitarist and accompanied eagerly and generously in the parishes she served also at Heidelberg University and the convent. She also loved Lake James, gardening, cooking, entertaining, walking, puzzles, cards, and board games.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, and 1-4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, 2023, at St. Francis Convent Chapel. A Christian Wake Service will be 7 p.m. Sunday on Zoom and can be accessed by going to the funeral home website.

Funeral Mass will be 4 p.m. Monday at the Convent Chapel. Fr. Gary Walters will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Francis Convent Cemetery.
