Beverly J. Jones
Beverly J. "Bev" Jones of Tiffin and Gainesville, Florida, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2023, at her home in Tiffin.
Bev was born June 23, 1934, in Tiffin, to Beulah (Creeger) and Gregory Shertzer.
Bev is survived by two daughters, Susan M. Jones (Jack Bour) of Tiffin and Dr. Holly J. Jones (Bob Wolin) of Houston Texas; two grandchildren, Jarred A. Bour-Jones and Jaclyn A. Bour-Jones, both of Tiffin, who affectionally called her MaMa Honey; and "Angels" who loved and cared for her, allowing her to live out her life at home, Judy Miller, Donna Honsberger, Mary Schalk, Donna Faeth, Donna Pryor, Karen Coppus, Helen Brickner, and Sandy Zoeller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty Timko and Dorothy Muggy; husband, Melvin A. "Bud" Jones; several sets of her German Shepherds, "The Boys"; and lifelong friend, Nancy J. Cole.
Bev was a graduate of Columbian High School where she was the head majorette and drum major of the band as well as Homecoming Queen. She earned her bachelor's degree in education from University of Toledo. While at UT, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, representative to PanHellenic Council, and was ROTC Queen in both her junior and senior years. After graduating from UT, Bev was a flight attendant based in Miami, Florida, for Eastern Airlines for two years.
She returned home after marrying the love of her life, whom she remembered seeing during a fire drill in second grade, "Bud" Jones on April 10, 1959, at Blessed Trinity Catholic Church in Miami, Florida. They were married for 51 years before Bud's death. Bev missed him every day since his passing in 2010. In Tiffin, she continued post graduate work at Heidelberg University and taught in Tiffin Public Schools for five years, being one of only two special education teachers in Seneca County.
Bev was a homemaker during the early years of her children's lives and was very active in all of their school activities, always encouraging them to do and be anything they wanted to be. She than joined her husband at Tiffin Foundry & Machine Inc. where she was the office manager for 25 years.
She was a talented high diver and swim enthusiast and an exquisite knitter. She was a perfectionist by nature which showed in all that she did. Her love for travel began when she visited the Bahamas and Cuba on her honeymoon and continued throughout her life, visiting numerous destinations with her family, including United Kingdom, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Italy, Turkey, Greece, Croatia, the Caribbean, Panama, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, China, and Tahiti. She had a special love for cruising and continued her travels with her family well into her 80s.
Bev was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Tiffin and Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Gainesville, Florida.
A private service and burial at Greenlawn Cemetery will be conducted by her friend of many decades, the Rev. Jeffrey P. Sikorski.
Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, is assisting family with arrangements.
As a lover of animals, especially "The Boys," memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Seneca County.
