Bud Dyer Obituary

Bud Dyer

Bud Dyer, 87, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, passed away Sunday, March 5, 2023.

Bud was born in Toledo to Pete Sr. and Claudia Dyer and graduated in 1954 from Fostoria High School. Bud entered the food business in Ohio in 1957 and married Pat Cahill in 1960. They moved to Fort Wayne where Bud worked as a food broker until his retirement in 1995. Bud and Pat had one child, Jenée, who passed away in 1995 from leukemia. "Help someone today and you'll feel good tomorrow" inspired Bud to help those in need in countless ways.

In 1997, he was awarded Golden Rule Award by WANE-TV. That same year, Pat retired from her teaching position with FWCS and started Camp Jenee with Bud. It was an adult cancer survivors' retreat. Pat passed away in 2005 from ovarian cancer.

In 2010, Bud began a non-profit foundation, The Pat Dyer Memorial Fund, which honors Pat's wishes to help cancer patients in need. The foundation gives gas cards to help patients get to and from their treatments. In 2017, Bud earned the State of Indiana's highest award from the governor, The Sagamore of the Wabash, which is given to those who offer distinguished service to helping others. In 2018, he was awarded The Jefferson Award in recognition of his volunteer work and community service.

Besides his parents, Bud was also preceded in death by his brother, Pete Jr.

Having no immediate family, Bud has donated his body to IU School of Medicine Research Center.

Per his request, there will be no funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to The Pat Dyer Memorial Fund, 6041 Stellhorn Road, Box 15282, Fort Wayne, Indiana, 46885, or made through the foundation's website at patdyermemorialfund.org.

Bud was the sweetest man. He was my favorite customer when I worked at Bob Evans, many years ago. He and Pat even took me to lunch at the country club once. They were so gracious!
I love that they're together again with their sweet girl.
