Catherine W.J. Hiner

Catherine W. J. Hiner, lovingly known as Cathy, passed away Tuesday, January 28, 2025, leaving a lasting legacy through the lives she touched. Born May 27, 1940, in Mt. Clemens, Michigan, she was the daughter of August and Norma Grayson. Cathy married her soulmate, Robert R. Hiner, September 17, 1971, and together they knit together a family including daughters, Roberta (Toni) Schmidt, Gretchen Kneip, Jennifer (Pete) McCullah, Christine (Randall) Kuester; and son, David (Helene) Hiner; along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren who carry her love and wisdom.

Cathy was dedicated to her education and faith, graduating from East Detroit High School and Garrett Evangelical Theological Seminary. Her ministry in the United Methodist Church spanned many years and churches in Michigan, reflecting her commitment to community service. An active community member, she participated in various organizations, including the Grindstone Port Hope Sportsman's Club and the Happy Hookers crochet club. In 1986, she was named Homemaker of the Year in Huron County, Michigan.

Cathy is preceded in death by her son, C. Anthony Todaro; sister, Patricia Fraser; and grandson, Werner Kneip Jr.

Her memory will be honored during visitation Friday, January 31 and Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Bringman Clark Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastors Amy Vittorio and Johnny Phillips.

Memorial contributions may be made to Wyandot County Council on Aging or John Stewart UMC Prayers and Squares.

Cathy's spirit will forever remain in the hearts of her family, reflected in every quilt stitched, note sung, and yarn knitted in her memory.
