Charles R. Fruth

Charles R. Fruth, 96, of Tiffin, was surrounded by family as he peacefully passed at 11:47 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, at St. Francis Nursing Home.

Charles was born Feb. 23, 1926, in rural Tiffin, to the late Archie D. and Clara A. (Rinebold) Fruth. He married Carolyn Anne Harper in Nov., 1947, at Washington Street United Methodist Church. Carolyn preceded him in death. He then married Millicent Foght Cooley Filson at Washington Street United Methodist Church in April, 1992, and she also preceded him in death.

Charles often stated that he was well satisfied with his life. He never met a stranger and loved talking with everyone. He played dart ball for the Tiffin Church and the County Grange leagues. He loved traveling (especially mystery trips), helping his brothers and nephews with farming, and participating in Allen Eiry Center's activities. Charles worked for Seneca County, Fought Brothers Construction, and retired from Excel Wire Company. He served in U.S. Marines.

Survivors include two children, Linda (Ken) Good of Tiffin and Harold (Lori) Fruth of Bascom; four grandchildren, Jessica (Tim) Pohlman of Upper Sandusky, Joshua (Angie) Good of Tiffin, Jared (Megan) Good of Fremont, and Jacob (Shelby) Good of Fremont; and stepgrandson, Jason (Megan) Cooley of Lucas. Charles had seven great-grandchildren, Zachary and Carter Pohlman, Abby Hoppes, Harper and Bailey Good, Hazel Good, and Garret Good, and also several stepgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his wives and parents. Charles was the last remaining child of this union. His deceased siblings include four brothers, Archie Dale, Duane, and Larry, and infant brother, Robert Fruth; two sisters, Charlotte Dootz and Marlyn Matthis; stepson, Keith Cooley; and stepgrandson, Jamie Cooley.

Charles' funeral will be 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin, with Pastor Charlene Thomas and Pastor Amy Kinney officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 18, 2022, at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services Monday at Fairmont Cemetery.
