Clara Jane Hughes

Clara Jane Hughes, 75, of Fostoria, passed away 10:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2023, at Perrysburg Health Care & Rehabilitation Center.

She was born Sept. 4, 1947, in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, to Frank Stephen and Dorothy Marie (Jeschke) Krepps Jr.

She is survived by her husband, Virgil Hughes; children, Theresa (Joe) Aldrich, Stephen (Shelly) Miniaci, Julie (Gary) Wild, David Hughes, Steven Hughes, Jennifer (Ernest) Blanton, and Dennis Hughes; 18 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Cynthia (John) Honey, Christine (Jim) Will, Carolyn (David) Kalie, Cathy (Gene) Dowling, and Donald (Weslee) Krepps.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Daniel Krepps; and daughter-in-law, Georgiana Hughes.

After high school, Clara attended culinary school and then taught the culinary arts at Rachel's Restaurant in Erie, Pennsylvania. Being extremely gifted and talented, Clara was a seamstress for over 50 years. She owned Hughes Sewing and costumes as well as We B Simple embroidery business. She made wedding dresses, costumes for musical presentations and other entertainers, and embroidered for local firefighters' uniforms and Fostoria High School and their majorettes, as well as the public. In her leisure, Clara enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting, and bowling with her husband, Virgil. She had a true passion for all she did and was a loving, brutally honest woman who was generous of her time and talent. With a loving, caring heart, Clara also foster parented.

A memorial gathering will be 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 1, 2023, at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline Street, Fostoria, followed by a time of sharing memories of Clara.
