Daniel Gucker Obituary

Daniel Eugene "Danny" Gucker

Daniel Eugene "Danny" Gucker, 62, lost his hard-fought battle with cancer Saturday, Jan. 14, 2023, surrounded by family at Ada F. Addington Hospice, Rush University Hospital, Chicago, Illinois.

Danny is survived by his siblings, James (Ann) Gucker of McCutchenville, Deborah (Tom) Rossi of Franklin, Tennesee, Susan Tobias of Powell, Garth (Sheila) Gucker of Seville, and Hans (Enessa) Gucker of Westerville; uncle, David "Bizzie" Bismark Schneider of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; aunt, Virginia "Ginny" Schneider of Groveport; mother, Judy (Price) Gucker of McCutchenville; nieces and nephews, Grant and Elise Gucker, Chase Ferguson, Molly, Jack, and Mitchell Rossi, Sophia and Matthew Tobias, and Max, Brett, Brooke, and Clay Gucker; brother-in-law, Tim (Paula) Buckalew of Lima, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Beth (Rod) Richardson of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Lisa (Jeff) Huston of Lancaster; and many Buckalew nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy (Schneider) Gucker; husband, Bob Buckalew of Lancaster; and father, Robert E. Gucker of McCutchenville.

Danny was born May 26, 1960, in Zanesville. He graduated from Mohawk High School in 1978. He kept in close touch with many high school friends.

He attended The Ohio State University where he studied computer science. Living in the Stadium Scholarship Dorm greatly influenced his love for Buckeye football. He loyally traveled to every Stadium Dorm Alumni Society Reunion. His OSU alumni friends have chosen to make donations to Stadium Alumni Scholarship Fund in his honor.

Opportunity eventually brought Danny to Chicago, Illinois, in 1982 where he devoted over 35 years at Taylor Made Software, Inc. as a Senior Software Developer. He mentored colleagues who became friends and worked for a company that became his Chicago family.

Danny had a warm, inviting smile, calm demeanor, and infectious laugh that always brightened the day. He was a blessing to so many people, especially his family. He was thrilled to support his nephew who played Buckeye football these last six years by traveling to as many games as he could.

Danny took great pride in sharing his love for downtown Chicago with family and friends who were always encouraged to visit home on the 35th floor of the iconic Marina City Towers.

As he requested, his cremains will be interred at Zanesville Memorial Park in the Schneider family plot. A private family memorial service will be planned at a later date.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to The Ohio State University Stadium Alumni Scholarship Fund at https://buckeyefunder.osu.edu/project/35401.

Please accept my sympathy. I was fortunate to know Dann from my time at Ohio State in the Stadium Scholarship Dorm. He was kind, always enjoyable to be around and had a smile on his face. I´m was sorry to hear his life was cut short by cancer.
