Darl Elchert Obituary

Darl V . Elchert

Darl V. Elchert, 80, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, Dec. 14, 2023, at Bridge Findlay Hospice, Findlay.

He was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Seneca County, to Eugene and Bertilla (Clouse) Elchert. Darl's mother died when he was four months old and his grandparents helped his father raise him. He married Jane Steinhauser on Sept. 14, 1963, at St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Darl's survivors include his wife, Jane; children, Greg (Janet) Elchert of New Riegel, Jolene (Rod) Hicks of Tiffin, and Brett (Kristi) Elchert of Tiffin; brother, Ronnie (Mary Jo) Elchert of Republic; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (Terry) Walton of Alvada; grandchildren, Preston (Jessica Plaugher) Elchert, Presley (Andrew) Long, Tyler (Stephanie) Hicks, Brandon Hicks, Brayden Elchert, and Bailey Elchert; and six great-grandchildren, Quinn and Nash Hicks, Carson, Derrick, and Jase Hicks, and Prynlee Long, and one on the way.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Darlene Stansberry and Leanilla Filliater; brother, Marvin Elchert; and infant brother, Delmar Dewitt Elchert.

Darl was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and graduated from Mohawk High School in 1961. He was a Local 18 heavy equipment operator for Hossler Construction for over 40 years and worked for Elchert's Lawn and Snow Removal for 20 years. Darl was a member of Knights of Columbus #608 where he volunteered many hours through fish fry's and being their glorified maintenance guy. He was an Ohio State, Cleveland Indians, and Cleveland Browns fan. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, playing cards (especially euchre) cornhole, trips to Amish country, and the Smoky Mountains, and was a great wood craftsman. Most of all, Darl loved his family and spending time with them, especially attending all the different activities of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

My condolences to the whole Elchert family. I remember Darel from the bowling tournaments of the K of C. He was always fun to be around.
