David Bishop Obituary

David L. Bishop

David L. Bishop, 71, passed away peacefully Saturday, Dec. 14, 2024, surrounded by his family. Dave was born June 28, 1953, in Tiffin. He is preceded in death by his brother and best friend, Paul J. Bishop; and his mother, Sylvia P. Bishop,

David is survived by his father, Jacob C. Bishop; and brother, Mark (Susan) Bishop. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his wife, Cynthia Bishop; daughter, Aundy (Jason) Teply of Bowling Green; son, Matthew (Jessica Allen) Bishop of Chicago, Illinois, and grandchildren, JJ and Georgia; son, Todd (Karly) McGee of Bowling Green, and grandchildren, Morgan, Cora and Ruby; daughter, Kim (Steve) Barnaclo of Bowling Green, and grandchildren, Kendall, Madelyn and Riley.

Dave was a graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School in 1971 and continued his education at the University of Toledo where he was named Distinguished Alumni in the College of Engineering. Dave also had a deep love for The Ohio State University, and while he was an avid Rockets fan, he always referred to himself as a "Rockeye".

Dave was a steadfast family man who in his last days was able to put the future of his family before his personal battle with "The Beast". He cared more for the peace and comfort of his family over his personal struggle, which is a true testament to his character in that it was always family first. Dave never pushed his wisdom and beliefs on anyone, but when called upon he was always ready to help. Among the things that his family and friends will miss the most are his willingness to help, his warm, comforting smile, his embrace, his advice, his unwavering commitment to be there when called upon, and his uncanny ability to make "Old Man Pars". However, after Cindy and his family it was always golf that was a close second. Dave loved his friendships at Belmont Country Club where he was a member for almost 40 years. In that time, his friends became his family, and Dave was able to carry out his lifelong dream living on a lake overlooking Belmont Country Club.

As the co-founder of Matrix Technologies, Inc., a leader in engineering and industrial automation, Dave helped build a company that set new standards of excellence in the field. His entrepreneurial vision and dedication to innovative ownership left an indelible mark on the industry, colleagues, and clients alike, serving as its CEO until he retired in 2018. He then served as a board member of Signature Bank, N.A. contributing his leadership and expertise to the financial sector while also maintaining and carrying on the family business and legacy that his father created in the Best Western Falcon Plaza – Bowling Green.

Dave was an avid traveler who found incredible joy exploring the world with his loving wife, Cindy. Together, they embarked on unforgettable adventures, from breathtaking landscapes of Africa to the icy wonderland of Antarctica, and shared special moments with the entire family in the beautiful British Virgin Islands and Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. They created cherished memories every step of the way, visiting 37 countries since retirement and strengthening their bond through their shared love of adventure and exploration.

Friends and family will be received from 3-7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 19, 2024, at Witzler-Shank-Walker Funeral Home, 222 E. South Boundary St., Perrysburg, Ohio (419-874-3133). Visitation will continue from 9-10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 20, 2024, at Zoar Lutheran Church, 314 E. Indiana Ave, Perrysburg, Ohio 43551, with funeral services beginning at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at Fort Meigs Cemetery.

Dave was strong in his philanthropic giving to Adopt America, Baby U Toledo and University of Toledo, and in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to one of the above charities.

Condolences may be made online to the family at www.walkerfuneralhomes.com.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

I knew Dave from Hopewell Loudon High School days. He was one year ahead of me, I graduated in `72. Remember the JV/freshman basketball practices and the games I dressed for JV games. Ran into Dave this past summer at The Exercise Coach in Perrysburg and we had a great conversation. Good guy who will be missed. Prayers to the Bishop family.
