David Lewis Obituary

THE VILLAGES, Fla. - David Neil Lewis, 94, was born in Buffalo, New York, in 1930, and passed away in The Villages, Florida, on May 17, 2025.

Dave grew up in the Philadelphia suburbs with his parents and brother.

After graduating from Lower Merion High School and attending art school, David married Gladys Mae McCrea in 1951, and raised four children, William, Charles, Laurie and Susan.

Dave was an Air Force veteran and a talented Interior Designer.

After serving his country, Dave moved his family to the Lewis farm in Indiana. Here he tried his hand at farming, a variety of sales roles, and ultimately, interior design. Beginning at Montgomery Ward, Dave moved to Harry Sharp, then Kaplan Furniture, and at last LS Ayres. He finally opened his own business, Lewis Interiors Incorporated.

Dave held leadership roles in the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), including serving as president of his state chapter. He won numerous awards for his work, including placing in the Top 3 at the Parade of Homes in Fort Wayne for 10 straight years, as well as several awards at the Decorator's Showhouse in Indianapolis.

In addition to design work, Dave had a calling as a gourmet chef. He could replicate any dish, rarely using a recipe. He took a delight in entertaining, travelling, and was a good and true friend. This remained a constant in his life – in his later years he truly treasured his time with friends, often at the American Legion!

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Myron and Geraldine; his brother, Myron Jr.; his son, William; and his wife, Gladys.

He is survived by his son, Charles; daughters, Laurie and Susan; as well as seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A Celebration of Life will be held in The Villages in May.

Dave was a great father-in-law. He was very creative and willing to share decorating ideas. One thing he taught me, to save money, was how to make curtains from sheets. I have used that trick a lot! He had a wonderful sense of humor and was welcoming to all sorts of people. It was always fun to know that we shared a birthday and I know he will be greatly missed.
