Deane Edwin Berrier

Deane Edwin Berrier, 89, of Tiffin, passed away Friday morning, May 26, 2023, at Elmwood At The Shawhan.

He was born Feb. 13, 1934, in Tiffin, to Bruce and Evelyn (Comer) Berrier. He married Gaye L. Hossler on June 16, 1956, and she preceded him in death March 2, 2018.

Deane's survivors include his children, Steve (Shannon) Berrier of Kentucky, Kelly (Ron) Brickner of Fostoria, and Theresa Scherger and Mike (Kelly) Berrier, both of Tiffin; longtime friend, Jeannie Brickner; siblings, Irene Boos and Jack Berrier; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Jeffrey Berrier; grandson, Dean Berrier; great-grandson, David Berrier; sisters, Barbara Haugh, Rosie Schubert, and Sandy Cale; and brother, Sonny Berrier.

Dean was proud to have enlisted in U.S. Army and served his country during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and together with his wife, Gaye, owned and operated Dean Berrier Excavating for over 50 years. Dean was affiliated with many community and civic groups and was always willing to use his backhoe expertise. He served as a member of Bascom Lions Club for many years and helped with various projects at Hopewell-Loudon School. Dean was a life member of Knights of Columbus #406, Tiffin VFW Post 2858, Tiffin Amvets Post 48, Fostoria Sportsman Club, and Fostoria American Legion Post 73, and could usually be found hanging out at the VFW or Amvets.

Deane's funeral will be 10 a.m. Friday, June 2, 2023, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424, with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by United Veterans Council.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday, June 1, 2023, at the funeral home.
