Delbert Robert Smith Sr.

Delbert R. Smith Sr., 68, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at Bridge Hospice, Findlay.

He was born August 27, 1957, in Tiffin, to Eugene and Patricia (Ferree) Smith. Delbert and Janice D. Chinell were spiritually married for over 30 years.

Survivors include his son, Delbert R. (Dianne) Smith Jr. of McComb; daughters, Owanna (Israel) Ortiz, Donnell Smith and Betty Smith, all of Tiffin; sister, Jessica (David) Polhamus of Michigan; sister-in-law, Doris Elaine McFerren of Tiffin; 12 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janice D. Chinell; and sister, Gina Bentley.

Delbert graduated from Columbian High School in 1976. He was a bonder operator at Teijin Automotive Technologies. Delbert was a member of Republic United Church of Christ. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, saving money, riding around in his truck, partying, and loving his dog, Patches. Delbert was a hard worker and a great father figure.

His Funeral Service will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, February 9, 2026, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883, (419) 447-2424, with the Rev. Darla Metz officiating. Burial will follow at Seneca Memory Gardens.

Friends may visit with family from 1-3 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 2026, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
