Dennis William Ranker
Dennis William Ranker, 77, of
Falls Church, Virginia, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 25, 2026, following a brief illness.
Born August 4, 1948, in Tiffin, Dennis was the son of the late Paul Ranker and Patricia (Blust) Ranker. A proud lifelong Tiffinite at heart, he carried with him a deep appreciation for his hometown throughout his life.
Dennis graduated from Calvert High School in Tiffin before earning his undergraduate degree in political science and a minor in German from Xavier University. His strong sense of public service led him to begin his professional career with the FBI. He later pursued a law degree at George Mason University, after which he dedicated more than 50 years of service as an attorney with the Social Security Administration, rising to Senior Appellate Operations Attorney, and retiring only recently. His long and distinguished career reflected his commitment to fairness, diligence, and helping others navigate complex systems. He was a long-time member of the National Federation of the Blind, always advocating for the rights of those with disabilities.
As a young man, Dennis worked at Ranker's ARCO gas station in Tiffin and served as a supervisor for summer recreational programs at Applejack Park, roles that reflected his early work ethic and connection to community.
Dennis found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved music, especially the sounds of the 1960s and 1970s psychedelic rock, and was always eager to explore the latest in technology, embracing new innovations with curiosity and enthusiasm. Despite living away from Ohio, he remained deeply connected to his roots, often reminiscing about visits to Jolly's Drive-In and enjoying Ballreich's Potato Chips, a favorite treat he cherished whenever his parents or son sent a box.
Above all, Dennis treasured time spent with his family. He married February 14, 1989 and is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn (Smith) Ranker; his son, Dennis Ranker; daughter-in-law, Milana Medvedeva-Ranker; and his cherished grandchildren, Ada and Naomi, who brought him immense pride and happiness; and his three sisters, Linda (Joe) Moore of Tiffin, Margo (Tom) Ardner of Tiffin, and Jeanne Ranker of Cincinnati.
Dennis will be remembered for his quiet dedication, thoughtful nature, and enduring love for his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the family he adored.
