Don Davis Obituary

Don O. Davis

Don O. Davis, 83, passed away Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

Don was born Jan. 28, 1940, in Bloomville, the only son of Russel and Beatrice (Sponseller) Davis born. Don lived his entire life being a pillar of the Bloomville community.

Don married the love of his life, Janet "Jan" (Wagner) on Jan. 21, 1962, and she survives. Their love of 62 years has been an inspiration to many who continue to aspire to know and live that same kind of love.

Don wore many hats in his life. He retired from ODOT as assistant superintendent and farming. He was also owner and operator of the Bloomville Sunoco. In his life, he shared his love for baseball and softball, coaching many people along the way, leaving that love of the game with them. He did the same as a 4-H advisor, volunteer firefighter, member of the Young Farmers, Lion's Club and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don always did what he could to help others.

Don's greatest pride was his family, in which in his last days, he looked around in amazement at all and expressed how blessed he knew he was.

Don is survived by three children, Mike (Pam) Davis of Bloomville, Shelly (Davis) Zeigler of Bucyrus, and Sherri (Davis) Bean of Bloomville; grandchildren, Ashley (Mike) Montgomery, Nicole (Allan) Evans, Mandy (Josh) McDaniel, Brittany Davis, Jaimie (Jeremiah) Thompson, Zack (Becky) Miller, Justin (Haley) Miller, Marcus (Dallas) Miller, Tori (Tim) Goshe, Joe (Sherry) Frontz, David Frontz, Sarah Longbrake, Leah Longbrake, and Caylie Bean; 19 great-grandchildren he was blessed with; and countless others that he considered bonus kids and grandkids as most of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren's friends called him dad or grandpa.

As Don went through life and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren arrived, he lived for the days when he could see them, attend sporting events as their biggest fan, and maybe even brag a little about them.

To know Don was to love Don. He will be greatly missed by all, but his legacy will live on forever.

Don was preceded in death by his parents.

Don's funeral will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at Bloomville United Church of Christ with Pastor Tom Kagy officiating. Visitation for family and friends will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2023, at Lindsey-Shook Funeral Home, Bloomville. Burial will follow the services Thursday at Woodlawn Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bloomville United Church of Christ, charity of the donor's choice, or to the family.

I did not know Don well. When I did see him it was as if we could catch up seamlessly. Positive attitude always. Janet I am sure you know better than I, what a wonderful man he was. I know you had 62 years together, but that is not enough for your entire family. I would imagine you and the rest of your family know what a good man he was. Remember always the good times. Don is a cousin of mine. Even though we didn't hang out together on a regular basis our families knew each other well . Most of us were farmers. Sorry to hear of his passing. Condolences to all his family.
