A wonderful, vibrant, and talented woman who made room for one more slightly older kid. I enjoyed listening to her play the piano and still remember her trying to teach me part of "Finlandia." She also enriched my appreciation of music by introducing me to Montavani, Ray Conniff, Les Paul and Mary Ford, Clebanoff Strings, etc. From her kitchen, I tasted my first Beef heart and pickled watermelon rinds. She was a truly amazing person.

Dottie was a fantastic person. She worked tirelessly to raise her children with high moral values, and she willingly shared her love of music with them and with me. She took time to teach me part of "Finlandia," on the piano, an instrument that she loved to play. We shared musical interests in albums by Percy Faith, Mantovani, Ray Conniff, Les Paul, and Mary Ford, et al.
I remember eating beef heart and pickled watermelon rinds for the first time at the Windau home. She was a good friend to my parents, who enjoyed many nights playing cards with her and Paul. A caring, energetic, and devoted lady was Dottie Windau. If you knew her, you were one of the lucky ones.

I am so so sorry to read of the loss of my dear friend Dottie. I always told her she would live to be a hundred and she did just that. I have not seen her in a while but when we did " catch up" with each other it was wonderful. To all of her family and friends I express my deepest sympathy to you all. She truly was one of my dearest friends. Rest Easy Miss Dottie . You are loved and will be missed
Sincerely with Love

To all my Windau cousins and their loved ones: Aunt Dottie was a very special, one of a kind person who loved her family and loved living. She seemed to take every moment and lived it to the fullest! I loved to watch her and Uncle Paul dancing at ANY event. Didn't matter what it was....if there was music... they were on the dance floor. And I remember her candied watermelon rinds. Last ones I had, were hers! They were so good - who knew you were actually eating a watermelon rind. And she was always cooking or canning something in the kitchen on Apple Street or their woodland oasis outside of Bettsville. The kitchen table was her gathering spot. She seemed to not be able to talk without smiling and her eyes would sparkle. And who knew she could play the piano! Not me... not until I saw the videos. Always proud to have served her country, to be a veteran, and proud of her children who served as well. All of you have even more fantastic memories than I do. Cherish them ~ All my love, Brenda

She was my mentor and a friend...as my supervisor, her example and guidance instilled in me a strong work ethic that has carried me through the past 50 years.
My heartfelt condolences to the family.
