Douglas Edward Ducsay

Douglas Edward "Doug" Ducsay passed away peacefully with his family by his side Friday, May 31, 2024, in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Doug was born Dec. 23, 1953, in Cleveland, to Edward and Elizabeth Ducsay. He married Louise Portman on Aug. 23, 1975, and she survives in Lake Wyle, South Carolina.

Doug's other survivors include his daughter, Danielle of Wilmington, North Carolina; son, Johnathan (Elizabeth) of Charlotte, North Carolina; two grandchildren, Fitz and Cece Ducsay; sister, Dawn (Patrick) Gorman of Avon Lake; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and in-laws, Robert and Marie Portman.

Doug was a 1971 graduate of Edison High School where he lettered in baseball and basketball. He furthered his education at Miami University of Ohio in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science in Education and Bowling Green State University in 1981 with a Master's degree in Education.

Doug was a passionate educator, teaching for over 30 years for Tiffin City Schools, where he taught geography, civics, government, and social studies. He was an active and respected basketball coach, community volunteer, and ambassador for Junior Achievement. Doug really enjoyed his co-workers and created many lifelong friendships throughout the years.

Doug was always known for sense of humor and was quick with his one-liners. He had a love for dogs, sports knowledge, reading his newspapers, and completing crossword puzzles. He had a passion for golf and was a member of Mohawk Golf and Country Club and River Hills Country Club. Doug liked to try new recipes, cook dinner regularly, and enjoy meals with his family while watching Jeopardy.

Most of all, Doug loved spending time with his family, friends, and dog who will all miss him dearly.

Doug's funeral will be 11 a.m. Friday, June 7, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tiffin, with a reception to follow from 12:30-2:30 p.m. at Pioneer Mill, 255 Riverside Dr., Tiffin.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to River Hills/Lake Wylie Lions Club at rhlwlions.org or NOAH Foundation of Ohio (No One Alone or Hungry) at noahfdn.org.

Thanks for being part of so many great memories, Doug Ducsay. I have wonderful stories from our time together (including going shooting with your dad in Milan). I´ll miss you, my friend.
