Douglas Wilhelm Obituary
Douglas Wilhelm
Douglas Charles Wilhelm, fondly known as Doug, was born December 20, 1949, in Toledo. A dedicated family man and a stalwart of his community, he left this world Saturday, March 29, 2025, in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by the love and warmth of his cherished family.
In a life that spanned more than seven decades, Doug ventured forth with a remarkable spirit, marked by devotion to his work and a deep commitment to service. He enjoyed a fulfilling 40-year career as a maintenance electrician at General Motors in Defiance, where his skills were matched only by the legendary work ethic he carried into each endeavor. This dedication was equally mirrored in his military service as a Vietnam Army veteran, a chapter in his life that he wore with pride. Doug's educational journey began with his high school graduation in 1967, followed by an associate's degree from the University of Toledo, where he laid a foundation for a life of achievement and purpose. Beyond his career, Doug's spirit resonated within the circles of several organizations, including UAW, VFW Post 3360 in Defiance, AMVETS Post 1991, where he took on the role of post commander from July 2015 to 2016, and Defiance Fish & Game Club. Each connection he fostered reflected his camaraderie with others who shared his passions and values. Married on July 10, 2010, to his beloved wife, Margaret J. (Sturgill) Wilhelm, Doug found joy and companionship in their union. Together they embraced a family rich in love and connection.
Doug is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Brandi (Michael) Randall from Uniontown, Kyle (Jennifer) Wilhelm from Norton, Shawn (Jessica) Wilhelm of North Canton, and Seth (Nicole) Wilhelm of Dayton. The family extends to his stepchildren, Eric Jumper from Bloomville and Alisha Jumper from Holgate. He took pride in being a grandfather to eight grandchildren, whose laughter and joy brightened his days. He is also remembered by his brothers, David (Janet) Wilhelm, Michael (Brenda) Wilhelm, Brian (Kathy) Wilhelm, and Nathan (Denise Schutzberg) Wilhelm, along with his brother-in-law, Randy VanEtten.
His beloved parents, Charles and Glenna (Dewese) Wilhelm; along with his first wife, Suzette Michaelis Wilhelm; and his sister, Ann VanEttan now greet him in eternity, where their bonds are rekindled.
Memories of Doug will echo forever in the hearts of those who knew him. He faced his declining health with courage and acceptance, knowing that his time was drawing near a testament to the strength of character he displayed throughout his life.
