Edgar Valentine Coleman

Edgar Valentine Coleman, 87, of Fostoria, died at 8:25 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

He was born February 13, 1938, in Seneca County, to Walter M. and Helena (Reinhart) Coleman. He married Mary R. Hoffbauer June 24, 1967, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom and she survives.

Also surviving are three sons, Joseph (Jennifer) Coleman of Delaware, Ohio, David Coleman and Mark Coleman, both of Columbus; two daughters, Marie (Ryan) Zinn of Westerville, and Helen Coleman of Fostoria; two grandchildren, Jelena Coleman and Sylvia Zinn; and a sister, Kathleen Stumpp of Cleveland.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Gerald, Virgil, Donald, Florian, and Duane Coleman; and four sisters, Berneda Moes, Cyrilla Coleman, Cleora Hendricks, and Marilyn Welly.

Edgar was a 1956 graduate of New Riegel High School and served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. He retired from National Machinery Co. after 45 years as a tool maker. He was a member of the former St. Patrick Catholic Church, Bascom and was a Communion distributor and a member of the choir. He belonged to American Legion 354 and Catholic Order of Foresters. He drove for SCAT for over 10 years and was an avid gardener and traveler, having visited all 50 states. He enjoyed spending time with and taking care of his family and playing cards. He donated over 31 gallons of blood and volunteered at the Sharing Kitchen in Tiffin and Fostoria.

Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Thursday, October 16, 2025, at TRAUNERO FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY, 214 S. Monroe St., Tiffin, Ohio 44883 (419)447-3113, where American Legion Post 354 will conduct military rites at 6 p.m.

The Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 17, 2025, at St. Francis Home Chapel, with visitation also one hour prior. Burial will be at St. Boniface Cemetery, New Riegel.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Red Cross, St. Francis Home Chiara Unit, the Sharing Kitchen, or Habitat for Humanity.
