Edward H. Beard
Edward H. Beard, 85, of Oak Harbor, passed away Sunday, Aug. 14, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Edward was born Oct. 7, 1936, in Tiffin, to Walter and Pauline (Adams) Beard. He married Carolyn (Risch) on Dec. 9, 1958, in Oak Harbor.
Edward served in U.S. Army, Signal Division, from 1958-64 and received the rank of SP/4. He was stationed in Germany for two years. He worked at Controls Corporation for 14 years and then as a maintenance mechanic at Uniroyal for 30 years where he received his journeyman's card. Edward was a master craftsman and very mechanically inclined, teaching these talents to his children. He had a love for flying and got his pilot's license when he was 16. One of his favorite events was attending the Indy 500 race with his dad, brothers, sons, and nephews as an annual tradition for over 20 years.
Edward was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Oak Harbor, where he served on the church council. He was also a member of Farm Bureau Clod Busters Council.
In addition to his loving wife of 63 years, Edward is survived by six children, Steven (Lenda) of Jacksonville, Florida, Brian (Reta Ontko) of Oak Harbor, Denise (Dennis) Woolley of Oak Harbor, Bruce (Trina Monak) of Fremont, Mark of Fremont, and Scott (Theresa Estrera) of Graytown; seven grandchildren, Carrie Beard, Jennifer Beard, Amanda St Germain, Steven Beard, Nicole (Nick) Clemons, Alex Beard, and Andy Beard; five great-grandchildren, Makenna Garza, Millie and Mason Kirk, and Connor and Kyla Clemons; two brothers, Donald (Charlene) Beard and Paul Beard; sister-in-law, Sandra Beard; and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and family friends.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; half-brother, James Malone; half-sister, Frances Malone; and brother, Ralph Beard.
Edward's funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 9789 W. Oak Harbor SE Road, Oak Harbor, with Pastor Cheryl Wessel officiating. Interment will follow at Roose Cemetery, Salem Township, with military graveside services conducted.
Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at Robinson-Walker Funeral Home & Crematory, 165 E. Water Street, Oak Harbor, and 10-11 a.m. Thursday at the church.
Memorial donations may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church or ProMedica Hospice.
