Elizabeth F. L'Italien
Elizabeth F. "Betty," L'Italien, 96, of Brookdale Assisted Living, Salem, Ohio, a former Town of Tonawanda, New York resident, passed away peacefully Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024.
She was born July 2, 1928, in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of George Francis and Elsie Anna (French) Collins.
Mrs. L'Italien retired in 1983 from Kenmore-Tonawanda Schools in New York and she had previously worked at NYS Rehabilitation Hospital in West Haverstraw, New York, from 1950 to 1952, where she taught physically handicapped (challenged) children. She moved to Alliance, Ohio in 2007 and then to Salem, Ohio in 2020.
Betty was a 1946 graduate of Lafayette High School in Buffalo and a 1950 graduate of New York State College at Buffalo. She was a member of St. Amelia Catholic Church in Tonawanda, New York and St. Ann's Catholic Church in Sebring, Ohio. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa International Honorary Sorority for Women Educators, member of American Legion Auxiliary Troop I 665 for 43 years in 2007, life member of Buffalo State Alumni Association, member of New York State Retired Teachers Association, Inc. and a member of New York State United Teachers and its national affiliate American Federation of Teachers (AFL-CIO) Kenmore Teachers Association.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. L'Italien, whom she married Aug. 9, 1952. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Helen Corbelli and Patricia Fleming.
Betty is survived by her son, Mark R. (Shawna) L'Italien of Salem, Ohio; two daughters, Anne L. (Ron) Fry of Bloomville, Ohio and Lynne B. (Duane) Torbert of Ashburn, Virginia; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Sincere thanks and appreciation to Brookdale Assisted Living, Salem, Ohio and Ohio's Hospice for the care given and the compassion of their staff for Elizabeth and our family. Their services were truly a blessing to her and to us.
Betty enjoyed cooking, quilting and family celebrations.

Visitation for friends will be from 3-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2024, at Lester H. Wedekindt Funeral Home, Inc., 3290 Delaware Ave.,
Kenmore, New York, 14217. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 7, 2024, at St. Amelia's Church, 2999 Eggert Road. Interment to follow at Elmlawn Memorial Park.
