Eric Bakies

Eric Bakies, 36, of Columbus and formerly of Carey, passed away Saturday, January 4, 2025.

He was born January 8, 1988, to Mike (Betsy) Bakies and Tami (Doug) Corbin. He is survived by his parents; grandparents, Jim and Judy O'Hare of Marion, Izaak and Sally Walton of Carey, and James Thatcher of Angola, Indiana; sisters, Haley (Shawn) Burgderfer and Britney (Cory) Richmond of Columbus; stepsister, Lauren (Greg) Moser and stepbrother, Ryan (Amanda) Corbin of Findlay. He will be greatly missed by his nieces, Ellie and Ruby Burgderfer and Braelynn and Harper Moser; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and his beloved dog, Buckley.

Eric graduated from Carey High School with the class of 2006. He participated in DECA and excelled both in and out of the classroom. A natural athlete from a young age, he played baseball, football, basketball, and golf throughout his school years and into college. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 2011 (Go Bucks!) and had a successful career in construction management.

Eric was a kind soul with a huge heart and a quick wit. He was a loyal friend, proud son, protective brother and adoring uncle. His absence is strongly felt and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was taken from us way too soon from the effects of addiction and mental health struggles.

A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 11, 2025, at COLDREN-CRATES FUNERAL HOME, Findlay. Visitation will be from 11-1 p.m., two hours prior to the service, with Pastor Dan Metzger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Eric's memory to Family Resource Center and/or Teddy's Rescue, both located in Findlay, Ohio.
