Florence May DeLong, age 93 of Montello (formerly of Rockford) passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison on Sunday, February 2, 2025. Florence was born in Rockford on July 9, 1931 to Bert and Florence Emily (Fleming) DeLong. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and met her future husband at a stocking factory. Florence married James DeLong on September 29, 1951 and they enjoyed 47 years together until his passing. Florence lived 73 years in Rockford before moving to Belvidere; in 2016 she came to Montello to be closer to family.
Florence visited Montello since 1967 with her husband and four children. She enjoyed playing cards, board games and spending time with friends and family. Florence said “Go ahead and deal the cards, she’ll watch.” She will be remembered by her many friends for her caring and outgoing personality.
Florence is survived by two children: Dale of Montello and Deb Torkelson of Montello and four grandchildren: Brittany (Jake Parks) Beahm, Kaylie (Jared Hughes) Reyes, Jason Welch and Stacy (Jamie) Como as well as great-grandchildren: Jaydyn, Kinsley, Caleb, Casen and Samantha.
Florence is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sons: Steven (Pamela) and Daniel and two sisters: Aina Brewster and Ivona Lukehart.
Honoring Florence’s wishes, no services will be held.
