Francis Lucius Obituary
Francis A. "Franny" Lucius, 91, of New Riegel, passed away Wednesday, June 14, 2023, at Bridge Hospice Care Center, Findlay.
He was born Dec. 3, 1931, to Frank and Clara (Reinhart) Lucius. Just celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary, he married Dolores "Susie" Schultz on June 13, 1953.
Franny's survivors include his wife, Susie Lucius of New Riegel; son, Robert (Theresa) Lucius of Tiffin; daughters, Linda (Phil) Hohler of Sandusky and Sandra (Richard) Russell of Holland; daughter-in-law, Cindy Lucius of Tiffin; sisters, Alma (Marion) Lucius of New Riegel and Marjorie Sowers of Sycamore; 13 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and four on the way.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Lucius; brothers, Bernard Lucius, Louis Lucius, Paul Lucius, and Gerald Lucius; and sisters, Dorothy Clouse, Lucille Smith, and Eileen Kurtz.
Franny was a 1950 graduate of Tiffin Calvert High School and received his degree in business from Tiffin University. He served in U.S. Air Force and was honorably discharged after serving four years, mostly in Great Falls, Montana. Franny worked as plant superintendent at Sterling Abrasives for 38 years, Alvada Construction, and measured fields throughout Seneca County for the Agricultural Soil Conservation Service (ASCS). He served as New Riegel Village treasurer in 1961, was a volunteer New Riegel EMT, member of All Saints Parish (formerly St. Boniface Catholic Church) where he served as a councilman, and was a member of New Riegel American Legion Post 354.
Franny enjoyed woodworking, making toys, big dollhouses and barns for his grandchildren, arrowhead hunting, reading, watching the weather, taking care of animals, and babysitting for his neighbor's dog, Snuggles. He liked ice cream and root beer floats, always making sure everyone had something to drink, and loved babies. He also enjoyed helping at the Church festivals and teaching CCD.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Monday, June 19, 2023, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, with the Rev. Timothy Kummerer officiating. Mass will be live-streamed at www.allsaints-parish.com. Burial will follow at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery with military honors being conducted by New Riegel American Legion.
Visitation with friends and family will be 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 18, 2023, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424, and 9:30-11 a.m. Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice Care, All Saints Parish, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

Franny was a special neighbor for my family. He always would lend a helping hand to us kids, and I loved climbing up in his overhead garage area he built to read comic books with Linda and Sandy. My parents treasured being neighbors to Franny and Susie. Lee and Franny exchanged ideas about woodworking, gardening, and so many other things. They borrowed pieces of wood, tools, gardening ideas, and just shared a family-like relationship for 50 years. Though we are saddened at the loss of Franny here on earth, we are grateful that he can now be healed and in the presence of the greatest carpenter that ever lived. We send our love and prayers to the entire Lucius family. May you be comforted by the wonderful memories and in knowing that Franny is experiencing the never-ending joy that he has found in Heaven.

Sorry for your Loss, Francis was a good Man. I worked at Sterling with him in the 60's and 70's.
