Franklin Laney Obituary

Franklin P. "Frank" Laney

Franklin P. "Frank" Laney, 50, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, surrounded by his family at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky.

Frank was born July 7, 1972, in Findlay, to the late Edsel "Bud" and Sandra (Loy) Laney. He graduated from Van Buren High School in 1990. He married his best buddy, Wendy (Warren) Laney, on Oct. 17, 1998.

By a circuitous route, in 2002, he earned a BBA in Information Systems from University of Toledo and later an MBA from The University of Findlay. Putting his education to work for Ohio State Highway Patrol allowed him to always be there for his family by coaching his children's sports teams and later attending all their sporting events. Never one to be idle, he always had a second job, whether teaching at Tiffin University, being the zoning inspector for Clinton Township, or fixing up old houses. There was nothing he couldn't fix or figure out how to do, technological or otherwise.

He was a true problem solver. He was always willing to help family, friends, or a stranger in need and frequently put others before himself. Though he was a hard worker, he always made time for the good times, summer vacations camping in northern Michigan, spring breaks with his family to Florida, or adventures in other states. One of his favorite things was drinking beer and trying new IPA's with his beer-loving friends. Those that knew him will miss his easy-going disposition and sense of humor frequently including gentle "ribbing" in the mix to provide laughs.

He is survived by his loving wife, Wendy; adoring children, Christopher and Kate; sisters, Nichole (Bob) Ramirez of Louisville, Kentucky, Sara (Jeremy) Sexton of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, and Lindsay Laney (Troy Saum) of Forest; brother, Dustin (Alexa) Laney of Fostoria; in-laws, David (Lisa) Warren of Ft Myers, Florida, Kathie (Carl) Bridges of Riverview, Florida, David (Amy) Warren of Findlay, and Tawney (Anthony) Martinez of Poland, Ohio; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; paternal grandparents, Edsel Laney and Betty Gillfillan; and maternal grandparents, L. Jerry and Virginia Loy.

Frank was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 21, 2023, at St. Mary Catholic Church with the Rev. Matthew Rader officiating and the Rev. Joseph Szybka as con-celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery. A Rosary will be prayed 30 minutes prior to Mass at the church.

Friends may visit and share stories 3-7 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2023, at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, 419-447-2424.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to St. Mary Catholic Church or St. Joseph Catholic Church.
