Bellevue has lost one of its truly remarkable people. Gary was an excellent athlete, teammate, teacher and coach but most of all showed humility and sportsmanship in everything he did.
My first memory of Gary was when we played on the same team in Little League in Bellevue at Greenwood Heights, now Robert Peters Park.
He was a real student of the game and played any position on the field but preferred 2nd base and was the anchor to our infield. His coaching and leadership skills developed early as he was always on top of the game situation and directed our team's defense on the field as we did not have adult coaches. I guess you could say, Gary was the designated adult on the team.
Our relationship continued through Little League, Babe Ruth(Pony League) American Legion and High School Baseball. Gary was always the consistent steady player and positive attitude despite some challenging High School Baseball seasons.
Gary also had a very good Tenor singing voice and we were fortunate enough to sing together in the Bellevue High School Choraliers singing group. I am not sure, but may be it was in the Choraliers that Gary and my cousin Brenda's relationship grew and led to 48 years of marriage.
Gary was truly a gentleman sportsman, outstanding teacher, coach, and friend to many. He will be missed but remembered for his dedication to his students, players, colleagues and friends.
We will miss you Gary!

Although I lost contact with Gary when I retired in 2003, I often thought about him, and our friendship while we taught together at SE. We'd spend time discussing current events and science topics during free periods. He was greatly admired and loved by his students, including my own children, Ken and Bonnie.

Mr. Manasco was my teacher many years ago, and one of very few I remember fondly. His love for teaching was unmatched, and he had such a warm personality. My heart goes out to his family.

I got to know Gary when my kids played golf for SE High School, Christopher played all four of his years in the mid 2000's and Sara played a couple of years. I drove the Golf Bus and Gary taught me how to keep the scores, so he didn't have to. We had a lot of great memories over the 4 years the kids were in golf. I was so sorry to hear of his loss, Alzheimer's robs so many wonderful people of a beautiful life.
