George E. Kraus

George E. Kraus, 70, of Tiffin, and formerly of Upper Sandusky, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at St. Francis Home, Tiffin.

George was born July 14, 1952, in Upper Sandusky, to Frederick Kraus and Jean Gillespie-VanHorn. He married Martha Shaffer on Oct. 14, 1972, at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Upper Sandusky, and she survives in Tiffin.

George is also survived by two children, Dustin (Kara) Kraus of Delaware and Nicole (Tom) Menning of Toledo; three grandchildren, Tylar Menning and Alex and Ava Kraus; brother, Joe (Cindy) Kraus of Upper Sandusky; and sister, Teri Myers of Upper Sandusky.

George was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Glen VanHorn Sr.; brothers, Dick and Michael Kraus; and sister, Amy Lemmon.

George graduated from Upper Sandusky High School in 1970 and attended Tiffin University where he received his associate degree in business. He worked as a manufacturing supervisor, retiring from American Fine Sinter of Tiffin, and before that, he worked for National Machinery and Cooper Standard, both of Tiffin, and Whirlpool, Clyde.

He was a member since of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Tiffin, since 1978, and former member of Old Fort Lions Club. George also was a member of Phi Theta Pi Alumni Association.

George enjoyed tinkering around the house and working with his hands, having built a pull behind camper from scratch. He enjoyed camping, biking, and going on bicycling tours that were held locally, and most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

George's memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 6, 2023, at Lucas Batton Funeral Home, Upper Sandusky, with the Rev. Jan Kucera officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Visitation will be 2-5 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the funeral home.
