Herbert Mitson Obituary
Herbert H. Mitson Jr., 95, of Tiffin, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, 2023, at Elmwood Assisted Living, Tiffin.
Herbert was born May 24, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Herbert H. and Mattie M. (Brown) Mitson. He married Jacqueline J. (Marentette) on June 16, 1951, in Royal Oak, Michigan.
Herbert's survivors include his wife, Jacqueline Mitson of Tiffin; son, Bryan (Alicia) Mitson of Southfield, Michigan; daughter, Karen (John) Swope of Tiffin; five grandchildren, Aaron (Janis) Swope of North Royalton, Amy (Erick) Nava-Swope of White Lake, Michigan, Jamison (Elaine) Swope of Hinckley, Ohio, Ashley Mitson of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Jason Mitson of Spring Hill, Florida; and five great-grandchildren.
Herbert was a retired mechanical engineer. He was a 1945 graduate of Royal Oak High School in Michigan and later went on to graduate from Michigan State University in 1951 with his Engineering Degree. Herbert was an U.S. Navy veteran. Herbert enjoyed music and playing in many community bands along with playing the trumpet in the Michigan State marching band.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Dorothy Rose.
There will be private family services for Herbert at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin. Burial will be at a later date at White Chapel Cemetery in Troy, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to N.A.M.I. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.shookfamilyfh.com.

Mr. Mitson was my next door neighbor, as a child. We heard music often coming from the windows, when he would play his trumpet. He and Mrs. Mitson were avid walkers in our neighborhood. I have fond memories of them both. Mr. Mitson will be missed.
My most sincere condolences to Mrs. Mitson and the entire Mitson family.
