Howard Keel Obituary

Howard Duane "Dewey" Keel

Howard Duane "Dewey" Keel, 72, of Diamond Bar, California, passed away peacefully with his family Friday, May 19, 2023, after a year-long battle with leukemia and its complications.

He was born Sept. 20, 1950, in Fostoria, to Avery and Dorothy Keel. He graduated from Fostoria High in 1968 and received a BS from Bowling Green State University and a MS in Medical Technology from Cal State Dominguez Hills. He served in U.S. Army at West Point, New York, as a medical specialist. In 1976, Dewey began his career as a Lab Technician at Good Samaritan Hospital in Dayton. With his drive and management potential, he rapidly rose to the top of his profession. He served 40 years as Lab Director, including 13 years at San Antonio Regional Hospital in Upland, California, where he was celebrated for creating state-of-the-art chemistry automation, before retiring at the end of 2020.

Dewey is survived by his son, Jonathan (Sarah); daughter, Kayla; son, Christopher; grandchildren, Avery, Zackery, and Benjamin; and sister, Lucretia Taylor.

Dewey was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife, Wendy; and brother, Franklin.
