Irene Elizabeth Johnson

Irene Elizabeth Johnson, 100, of Tiffin, passed away at 8:57 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2022, at Elmwood at the Shawhan, Tiffin.

She was born April 11, 1922, in Clinton Township, to the late Alvin John Kiesel Sr. and Lillie Belle (Williams) Kiesel. She married Dale W. Johnson on June 30, 1946, at St. John's United Church of Christ, Tiffin, and he preceded her in death April 18, 2020, after 73 years of marriage.

Irene is survived by her two sons, Brent A. (Claire) Johnson of Aloha, Oregon, and Dean L. Johnson of Anaheim, California; grandson, Drew Sage of Encinitas, California; two stepgrandchildren, Jason Averill of Aloha, Oregon, and Leigh (Averill) Griffith of Corvallis, Oregon; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Irene was a 1939 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and also attended Tiffin Business University. Her elementary years were spent in a one-room school house in Whitehall. She worked as a secretary at the former WH Kildow Company. She was a member of Tri-Star Chapter #209 OES, St. John's United Church of Christ, and its Ruth Circle and Midday Fellowship group. She was also a member of T-Squares since 1987. Irene enjoyed western square dancing, round dancing, gardening, and birds.

Irene was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sons, Kevin D. Johnson and Marc W. Johnson; daughter-in-law, Susan E. Johnson; four sisters, Viola B. Sarkan, Edna L. Moyer, Agnes V. Lange, and Adah F. Fausnaugh; and brother, Alvin J. Kiesel Jr.

Irene's funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, 2022, at Engle-Shook Funeral Home & Crematory, Tiffin. Visitation for family and friends will be 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will follow the services at Pleasant Union Cemetery, Old Fort.
