James Edward "Jim" Croy
James E. Croy passed away peacefully Monday, August 11, 2025, at St. Francis Nursing Home with family by his side.
Jim was born to Glenn A. Croy and Clara Z. Croy (Freidel) January 22, 1942, in Tiffin. He attended St. Mary's grade school and graduated from Calvert High School in 1960. Jim graduated from Bowling Green State University in 1966, majoring in Insurance. Later that same year, he married Martha L. Reineck at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Fremont. Two weeks later, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and was stationed in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Fort Benning, Georgia, followed by a tour in Vietnam as an artilleryman from 1967-1968. He was honorably discharged in 1968.
Jim and Marty taught at Tiffin University for one year before Jim embarked on his insurance career. He started at Central Mutual Insurance Company in Van Wert and was transferred to the Dallas office. He later joined General Reinsurance in Chicago, Illinois and then moved to Westerville where he lived for the next 42 years. In 1983, he started his own insurance agency, Central Ohio Insurance Agency, and ran his business until his retirement in 2004. In 2018, Jim and Marty moved back to Tiffin.
Jim was an active member of the Church of the Resurrection in New Albany, where he ushered and distributed communion to various nursing homes in the area. He was a member and president of the Westerville North High School Music Boosters and an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He volunteered at WARM, the Westerville food pantry.
He is survived by his wife, Marty; children, Laura Simmons (Tom) and Matthew Croy (Elena); grandchildren, Joe, Emma, Hope and Henry; brother, Gary (Lena); brother-in-law, John Reineck; and many nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents.
Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor and skills at card games and croquet. In addition to his family, Jim loved woodworking, trains and a good Manhattan.

Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 16, 2025, at St. Francis Home Chapel, with the Rev. Gary Walters officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Western Reserve National Cemetery, Rittman.
