James A. Smith

James "Jim" A. Smith, 70, of Fremont, passed away surrounded by his family Wednesday, January 29, 2025, at his home. Jim was born April 20, 1954, to Donald H. and Stella (Schetter) Smith in Fremont. Jim was a 1973 graduate of Fremont Ross High School and Vanguard Tech Center.

Jim worked as a bodyman in his earlier years in Custard. He went on to work for Green Bay Packaging for 42 years until he retired in 2018. Jim was a volunteer firefighter for Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department from 1978 to 2010. Jim enjoyed bowling, bike riding on the trail and riding to check out people's yards and Gunsmoke. He was an avid Ohio State, Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Browns Fan.

Jim is survived by his siblings, Rick "Alfie" Smith of Fremont, Doug (Kathy) Smith of Tiffin, Scott Smith, Cindy Smith, and Jerry Smith, all of Fremont, Rose Chamberlain of Vickery and Tammy (Rex) Smith of Tiffin; sister-in-law, Helen Smith; brother-in-law, Steve Miles; many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Kathy Miles; brother, Fred Smith; brother-in-law, Gary Chamberlain; sister-in-law, Joy Counts; nephew, Nathan Smith; great-nephew, Austin Arndt; and great-niece, Kendall Smith.

Visitation will take place from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E. State St., Fremont, OH 43420.

Services will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 6, 2025, at the funeral home with an hour of visitation prior starting at 9 a.m. Burial will follow at Lindsey Cemetery.

Memorials can be made in Jim's honor to Stein Hospice or Sandusky Township Volunteer Fire Department.
