James Welly Obituary
James D. "Jim" Welly, 92, of rural Carey, passed away peacefully with family by his side at 4:29 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, 2023, in the home he and Barb built 30 years ago.
James was born May 19, 1931, in Tiffin, the son of Frederick and Coral (Mertens) Welly. Jim married his high school sweetheart, Barbara J. Bauer, on Oct. 25, 1949.
Jim is survived by his wife, Barb; eight children, Don (Donna) Welly and Mark (Chris Dula) Welly, both of North Carolina, Pam Welly of Tiffin, Marsha Fredritz and Neil Welly, both of Carey, Tina (Mark) Calmes of Upper Sandusky, Dave (Barb) Welly of Kansas, Ohio, and and Karen (Dan) Wetzel of Minnesota; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Robert Welly; two daughters, Jean Shiley and Becky Orians; two brothers, Charles and Walter Welly; sister, Natalie Oberholtzer; one grandson; and one great-great-grandson.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at All Saints Parish, New Riegel, where he has been a member for years. Fr. Gary Walter will be the officiant. A private graveside service will be at a later date at Seneca Memory Gardens near Tiffin.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Friday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Wyandot County and sent to the funeral home.
