Janet Rennels Obituary

Janet E. Rennels

Janet Elizabeth (Osgood) Rennels, 97, passed away peacefully into eternity Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at The Willows at Tiffin.

Jan was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Bedford Township, Michigan, to Addison and Lydia (Winslow) Osgood. She grew up in Bedford Township on the historic family farm and graduated from Monroe High School in 1944, Toledo Hospital School of Nursing in 1947, and University of Toledo in 1950.

Jan married Donald Rennels on Sept. 9, 1950. Together, Jan and Don raised three children as they lived in different communities before settling in Tiffin in 1966. Jan was a member of Cadet Nurse Corps and worked as a RN in hospitals in Toledo, Bowling Green, and Dayton. In Tiffin, she was an active member of St. Paul's UMC and UM Women, past member of YMCA and Y-wives, United Way board, and Red-cross blood mobile volunteer.

Jan was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend. She enjoyed spending time traveling with Don in their RV, playing golf, and visiting family and friends all over the country. She loved music, singing, and playing the piano, especially for her grandchildren. She was an avid reader, enjoyed word search puzzles, her family history, and kept very detailed notes on her everyday life which will be treasured by the family.

Jan is survived by her children, Linda (Paul) Schleuniger of Wildomar, California, and Craig (Linda) Rennels of Findlay; daughter-in-law, Melissa Rennels of Tiffin; six grandchildren, Nathan Spoon, William Rennels, Emma (Matt) Wellbaum, Lydia Rennels, Alyssa (Cody) Miller, and Hailee Rennels; and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Donald Rennels; eldest son, Garry Rennels in 2019; and brother, Harold Osgood in 2019.

Visitation for friends and family will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024, until the time of Janet's memorial service at 1 p.m. at Hoffmann-Gottfried-Mack Funeral Home & Crematory, 236 S. Washington St., Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, (419) 447-2424. Pastor Charlene Thomas will officiate.

Private burial will be at the family farm cemetery in Michigan later this year.

The family extends a special thank you to The Willows at Tiffin and Heartland Hospice Care for the excellent care and compassion the last few months.
