Janet R. Steinmetz
Janet Steinmetz, 90, of Marblehead, passed away at 7 a.m. Wednesday, September 17, 2025.
She was born to the late Albert and Mary Lou (Kummerer) Boes in Tiffin. Janet was blessed to have 55 years together with her husband, John Steinmetz.
Surviving are four brothers; five children; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter and son-in-law.
Janet was a graduate of Arcadia High School and achieved a Bachelor of Science in Education from Bowling Green State University. Janet was a Reading Specialist Teacher for 25 years at Hopewell-Loudon Schools in Bascom. She was very passionate about helping young children enhance their reading. Janet was one of the pioneer teachers in the state to teach Reading Recovery. She instructed a summer school reading workshop for children to expand their reading through enrichment activities and a program for children of migrant workers. After she retired, she loved to return to Hopewell Loudon primary grade students to share her love of pop-up books. She was a longtime member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tiffin, St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, and Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Port Clinton.
A life well lived with family and friends. She dearly loved and supported her family. She shared her passion for music with her family on her organ and loved attending musical performances of all types. Janet had many amazing travel adventures around the world. She loved to sew creative clothing and accessories. Janet enjoyed boating, dancing and snowskiing.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Life at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead at the Fellowship Hall, Friday, September 19, 2025, from 7-9. A viewing will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marblehead, Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 10 a.m. followed by her Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Mass will be livestreamed for those unable to attend. Private interment of her ashes with her husband, John, will be at a later date at Seneca Memory Gardens in Tiffin.
The family would like to thank the amazing team of caregivers who, in the last years of her life, provided loving care and companionship for Janet. Also, the family is grateful to Elara Caring Hospice for their assistance in her last year as well.
