Joanne Sigler
Joanne W. Sigler, 94, died Thursday, Oct. 13, 2022, in Dublin, Ohio, after brief illness.
Joanne was born Oct. 10, 1928, in Toledo, to Charles and Wanda Wenner. A lover of history and literature, she graduated with a degree in sociology from Toledo University. In 1950, she married Jack Sigler. They settled in Tiffin, where she devoted her time to their two children, Matt and Sara. However, her passion for children extended beyond the home. She supplemented her resume with an education degree from Bowling Green State University while teaching at Betty Jane School for the Deaf. For the next 25 years, she taught sixth grade at Clinton and Krout Elementary Schools. She loved her students and especially enjoyed introducing young minds to books with her passion for reading and imaginative story-telling.
After her retirement, Joanne and Jack traveled extensively, visiting London, England 34 times. Other favorite locations included New Orleans, Louisiana, where she and Jack honeymooned and enjoyed their 50th wedding anniversary, Boston, Massachusetts, for lobster dinners, Spain, Portugal, Greece, and more. At home, she was an active member of Pi Beta Phi sorority, Panhellenic, Penthouse, and her weekly bridge club. She was also an active supporter of Friends of the Library. She loved gardening and not only curated and planted several themed gardens at her Tiffin home, but also became certified as a Master Gardener. Joanne had many positions over the years at Old Trinity Episcopal Church, including Senior Warden and co-chair of the English Tea. She shared a love for Ohio State football with her family and attended many games over the years. In later years, her reading focused on English naval history, with a spotlight on Lord Admiral Horatio Nelson. Other hobbies included painting, poetry, writing her memoirs, Masterpiece Theater, and all things English. She was a devoted and much adored mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be greatly missed, but her zest for life and myriad interests will be a stalwart reminder to her family of a life well-lived.
Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Sigler; and sister, Helen Dodson.
Joanne is survived by her son, Matt (Martha) Sigler of Dublin, Ohio; daughter, Sara (John) Mussachia of Manchester-by-the-Sea, Massachusetts; grandchildren, Andrew (Kaitlin) Sigler of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Emily (Joe Bencosme) of St. Croix, US Virgin Islands, Laura (Timothy) Logan of Dublin, and Joseph Mussachia of London, England; and great-grandchildren, Olivia Logan, Sophia Logan, Alice Joanne Bencosme, and Lily Sigler.
Joanne's friends in Tiffin and Dublin were very important to her. They will dearly miss her infectious laugh, terrific stories, and wonderful company.
