Joanne M. Smith
Joanne M. Smith, 84, of Fremont, passed away Sunday, Nov. 3, 2024, at Elmwood Care Center.
She was born June 21,1940, in Tiffin, the daughter of Carl and Bernadine (Brickner) Depinet.
She was a graduate of Hopewell Loudon High School and went on to attend Mary Manse College in Toledo. On July 8, 1961, she married Louis Smith at St. Patrick Church in Bascom. He preceded her in death April 26, 2022.
Surviving are her sons, Mark (Jolene) Smith of Fremont, Paul (Lisa) Smith of Lewisville, North Carolina; Gary (Jeni) Smith of Findlay, Dale (Tammy) Smith of Battle Creek, Michigan, and Todd (Becky) Smith of Monroe, Michigan; grandchildren, Jacob (Casey), Jarett (Meghan), and Jordan (Lauren) Smith, Curtis (Katie) and Alexandria Smith, Tyler Smith and Lauren (Keaton) Rath, and Noah, Maureen, Julia, and Audrey Smith; great-grandchildren, James, Jesse, Harper, Wesley and Addison; siblings, Doris Powell of Sanford, North Carolina, Betty (Ron) Cain of Toledo, Martha (Joe) Uveges of Louisville, Kentucky, Edward Depinet of New Riegel, Steve (Pam) Depinet of Bascom, Don (Marcia) Depinet of Indianapolis, Dennis (Melissa) Depinet of Bascom, Dave (Linda) Depinet of Bascom, and Diana Depinet of Indianapolis; sister-in-law, Mary Helen (Al) Sheibley of Defiance.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband; siblings, Michael Depinet, Robert Powell, and Margaret Mizen; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ann and Roy Hohman, and brother-in-law, Donald Smith.
Joanne was a paralegal, a bookkeeper for Smithers Farms, and worked for Lakota Schools. She was a dedicated member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church, Millersville, OH, serving as Director of CCD, and was an active volunteer throughout the church. She volunteered her time at Hayes Presidential Library and Museum, was a Red Cross Board Member including serving as the Board Secretary and an avid champion of National Alliance on Mental Illness for Seneca, Sandusky and Wyandot counties, where she served on their board and as an educator.
A Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, 865 CR 635, Helena, Ohio, visitation will begin at 9 a.m., Msgr. Tad Oxley will officiate. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Ludwig Cemetery, Fremont.
