John Burton Sr. age 84 of Grandview, Tennessee went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 2, 2025 at his residence.
He was born on July 6, 1940 to the late John David Burton and Margaret Burton Pettyjohn. John was born in Rhea County and moved to Atlanta in his early 20’s where he started Sonny and Sons Flooring. He then moved back to Tennessee where he has been a resident of this area for the past 40 years. John loved to play the guitar and sing. He attended Mercy Baptist Church in Grandview.
John is preceded in death by his wife Lillian Burton, his stepdaughter Paulette Walker, and his brother Carl Brady.
Survivors include his children Julia (Phillip) Zimmerman of Grandview, Tennessee, John Wilburn (Rebecca) Burton Jr. of Hixson, Tennessee, Thomas (Angie) Burton of Dayton, Tennessee, and Vikki (Hugh) Johnson and Shelbyville, Tennessee; his brothers Rick Brady of Dayton, Tennessee and James Pettyjohn of Sevierville, Tennessee; his sisters Brenda Hallberg of Harrison, Tennessee and Jennie Bartman of Wisconsin; his 15 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. at Mercy Baptist Church, 5396 Wassom Memorial Hwy, Grandview, TN 37337, with Rev. James Rogers and Darrell Lunsford officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Sulpher Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
