John Peter "Pete" Christensen

John Peter "Pete" Christensen, 55, of Sarasota, Florida, passed away unexpectedly of natural causes Wednesday, May 17, 2023, in Sarasota, Florida.

He was born May 17, 1968, at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, Mississippi, to Dr. Charles and Nancy (Clouse) Christensen. Pete never met a stranger and he loved his 1963 Corvette and his dog, Keva, who preceded him in death.

Peter graduated from Northmont High School in Englewood and Wright State University in Dayton with a Bachelor's Degree in Science and Sociology. He was the safety director for several large construction companies nationwide including Midwest Steel during the building of the Southern Illinois University Sports Arena in Carbondale, Illinois, The Beck Group in Tampa, Florida, during the building of University of Tampa Resident Hall 7 and Idlewild Baptist Mega Church in Tampa, Florida, Batson & Cook of Tampa, Inc. during the building of the Twin Towers of Channelside in Tampa, and worked as Safety Director for the Army Corp of Engineers during the Lido Beach, Florida shoreline reconstruction. Pete was also one of the original OSHA certified safety instructors for Ohio and Florida.

Pete is survived by his parents; twin brother, Jason Christensen of Sarasota, Florida; brother, Andrew (Angela) Christensen of Put-in-Bay; nieces and nephews, Olivia and Drew Christensen of Put-in-Bay and Sydney, Gianna, and Brandon Christensen of Sarasota, Florida; long-time friend and companion, Dr. Surichya Surattanont and her daughter, Supawadee, of Sarasota, Florida; uncle, Tom (Debbie) Clouse; aunt, Anne Clouse of Tiffin; and numerous cousins.

Peter was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Albert J. and Jane (Fingerhuth) Clouse; and paternal grandparents, Ralph and Marion (Lewis) Christensen.

There will be a celebration of Peter's life at a later date. Engle-Shook Funeral Home, Tiffin, is assisting family with arrangements.

He will be buried at Greenlawn Cemetery, Tiffin, with a private ceremony.
