John G. Droll

John G. Droll, 84, of Fostoria, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022, at his home of natural causes.

He was born March 7, 1938, in Fostoria, to the late Leo and Hilda (Arend) Droll. He married Susan J. Faber on Sept. 2, 1961, at St. Wendelin Catholic Church, Fostoria.

He is survived by his wife, Susan J. Droll of Fostoria; sons, Todd A. Droll of Fostoria and Michael J. Droll of Michigan; daughter, Laura E. Newman of Columbus; grandchildren, Alex Droll of Michigan, and Karissa Newman and Dalton Newman, both of Columbus; sisters, Barbara Frankforther of Tiffin, Wilma Klopp of Tiffin, and Velma Nye of Alvada; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers, Bernard, Henry, and Maurice Droll; and two sisters, Patricia Wolph and Virginia Holman-Fredritz.

John grew up on a farm in Fostoria, raising animals and cash crops. He stopped farming after his mother passed and the family farm was sold in 1991. He retired from ADM, (Staleys), (Swifts) soybean processing plant, Fostoria, after 46 years. He was a Union member and leader. He bowled for 55 years on the company bowling team at Seneca Lanes, Fostoria. He was a 1956 graduate of Hopewell-Loudon High School and attended class reunions. He also served in Army Reserves as a Sergeant for six years.

He was a member of Young Farmers Association, 3rd Degree Knights of Columbus Council 1197, American Legion, and VFW Post 421, and was a generous blood donor.

Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, 2022, at Hoening & Son Funeral Home, 133 W. Tiffin St., Fostoria, where a Vigil will take place at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial is 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, with the Very Rev. Joseph Poggemeyer presiding.

Burial will follow at St. Wendelin Catholic Cemetery with military honors provided by United Veteran's of Fostoria Honor Guard.
