John Enders Obituary

John E. Enders, Ph.D

John E. Enders, Ph.D., 75, of Dalton, Pennsylvania, passed away Monday, Feb. 19, 2024, after a lengthy illness.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Filiere Enders.

John enjoyed a long and successful career in the biotechnology, pharmaceutical, and life sciences industries, first as a corporate executive and later as an independent consultant. He was founder and Chief Executive of TechManage Associates and Center for Educational & Career Advancement. He also served as a Vice President of Delmont Laboratories, Swarthmore, until his retirement in 2013. A respected adviser and consultant, John assisted new and developing companies with regulatory compliance, quality assurance, and business development challenges.

John was Executive Director of Bioprocessing Resource Center at Penn State for several years, directing business and research services for firms throughout the Commonwealth. He was on the Biology faculty of Keystone College, later serving as Dean of Student Affairs. He also taught business and science courses at other local colleges.

He served on the boards of the Biotechnology Council of Bucks County, PA Biotechnology Association, NEPA Technology Council, Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Economic Development Council of NEPA, and Dalton Borough Council. An active member of The Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn, John was a member of its Vestry and served terms as Senior Warden, Junior Warden, Clerk, and Treasurer. He was also a member of Scranton Canoe Club and over 30-year member of Clemo Hunting & Fishing Club, Cherry Ridge.

Son of Burdell and Wanda Allgyre Enders, John was raised on his family's farm near Attica. He earned B.S. and M.S. degrees in Biology from Bowling Green State University. He held a Ph.D. in Zoology from Michigan State University and an M.B. A. from University of Scranton. He served in U.S. Marine Corps Reserve.

John was known as an avid outdoorsman and keen observer of the natural world. His extraordinary first-hand "reports from the woods" combined meticulous scientific observation with hayseed humor. He'll be remembered as a devoted husband, father, and brother, and fiercely loyal friend, gifted teacher, and mentor.

John is also survived by his children, Irena and Edward, both of Dalton; beloved granddaughter, Isabell Cook of Dalton; sisters, Mary (Thom) Veletean, Evelyn (Duane) Scherley, and Burdella Stuckert, all of Tiffin; sisters-in-law, Jeanne Juhos of Charleston, South Carolina, and Cheryl Ridley of Whitesboro, New York; and many nieces and nephews who brought great joy to his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister-in-law, Talitha Camiscione of Findlay.

A service celebrating John's life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2024, at Church of the Epiphany, Glenburn. Visitation for friends will be 10-11 a.m. Saturday at Church of the Epiphany Commons Room.

John's celebration of life and burial will be in Attica at a date to be announced.

Memorial contributions may be made to Dalton Fire Company, Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, or The Church of the Epiphany.

Joyce and family,
I'm so saddened to learn of John's passing. I got to know John while he was a grad student at MSU and was at the Museum. There were many graduate students that passed through there, and I was often invited to all the parties which were a lot of fun, especially those hosted by Rollin Baker. He was a kind guy and a lot of fun to be around. He will be missed.

I’m so sorry for your loss. I did not know John that much, but I remember a lot of us cousins outside talking and we all looked up to John even though we were very young. He always was so kind when ever I saw him.

My deepest condolences go to my Aunt Joyce and The Enders Family. Uncle John was and will always be remembered as a G. O. A. T.; truly a man who was the greatest of all. He always struck an interest in my life as far back as I can remember to my more recent memories. He would share stories of nature and take us on hikes through his property. He would joke with all of his nieces and nephews, however, he seemed to be much more tender with me.
It is with the heaviest of heart that I write how very sorry I am for the loss of a man whom touched all of our lives, family, friends, colleagues and students in such a positive and caring manner.
He will be deeply missed.
Love Always,
Talitha Ridley-Gorea & John Gorea

I have many fond memories of my brother-in-law, John Enders. It was always a pleasure when he and Joyce came to visit us in SC and when we would visit them in PA. John was an a fine gentleman, husband, father, friend to many, Marine veteran, etc. He had made many achievements throughout his life. He loved nature, shared much knowledge, and had a sense of humor. Conversations with John and Joyce we were always fun and interesting. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many. May family and friends find comfort in happy memories. Sending sympathy, love, and prayers -

“A marine has passed away today.” Doctor, you are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow veteran. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom and democracy. The final battle is now over and peace has been restored. The final bugle has sounded and taps is about to sound ending a successful career as a nation’s defender. Farewell fellow veteran. A Navy Vietnam Veteran.
