John Myers Obituary

John R. "Jack" Myers

John R. "Jack" Myers, 79, of Tiffin, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2024, at Mercy Health - St. Vincent Medical Center, Toledo.

He was born May 6, 1945, in Cuyahoga County, to John and Evelyn (Musser) Myers. Jack married Elizabeth A. "Beth" Nuss on July 10, 1967, and she preceded him in death Nov. 15, 2021.

Jack's survivors include his sons, Pete (Renee) Myers of Tiffin and Paul (Kim) Myers of Queen Creek, Arizona; five grandchildren, Ken (Chasity) Thomasson, Ashley (Daniel Fleckner) Myers, Derek Myers, Austin Myers, and Dylan (Aryana) Myers; and four great-grandchildren, Claudia Rae Fleckner, Colt Fleckner, Brianna Thomasson, and Alex Thomasson.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, Evelyn Myers in 1967 and his father, John, and stepmother, Anita (Miller) Myers.

Jack was a 1963 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and 1967 graduate of Heidelberg College. He started his teaching career teaching one year in New Riegel and retired as a music teacher after 35 years from Bellevue City Schools. Jack spent many years working at the Riverview Inn front desk and summers at Leiners Men's Clothes. For 30 years, he ran the Sunday school program and directed the youth choirs at First Presbyterian Church in Tiffin. He continued at First Lutheran Church with singing in the choir, playing the handbells, and serving on numerous church committees. He sang in the Heidelberg community choir from 1968 until approximately 2020. He was a camp counselor and Director at Kirkmont Camps for many years and also sat on numerous boards around Tiffin, including Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Heidelberg, St. Francis, and Columbian Alumni among others.

Jack was always willing to lend a hand or an ear and he never met a person he didn't like. Once he met you, he remembered everything and you were a friend for life.

Jack's memorial service will be 12 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at First Lutheran Church, 300 Melmore Street, Tiffin, Ohio, 44883, with Pastor Clayton Bailey officiating. Private burial will take place at Fairmont Cemetery.

Visitation for friends and family will be 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Saturday at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Lutheran Church, Heidelberg College, Tiffin Columbian Band Boosters, or Bellevue City Schools Music Boosters.
