John S. Walker Jr.

John S. Walker, 72, son of Sam and Margaret Walker of Tiffin, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2022, at Mercy Health - Tiffin Hospital.

John is survived by his wife, Lisa Walker; two sons, Sean (Tana) Walker and Seth (Michelle) Walker; grandchildren, Logan (Roni), Claire, and Mallory, and bonus grandchildren, Candace (Travis) Kimmel and Charlotte (Matt) Bach; and great-grandchildren, Brantley Walker and Brayley Walker, and bonus great-grandchildren, Cohen Thiel and Heath Kimmel.

John and Lisa were married 50 years on Sept. 23, 2022. John received his Bachelors Degree in History from Ohio Dominican University in May, 1972, and entered into a successful 30-year career in sales and marketing. With a desire to pass on his knowledge, John returned to teaching and completed his Masters in Education in May, 2005. He continued teaching until retiring in 2010.

John had a passion for gardening, even constructing his own greenhouse to maintain the park-like atmosphere at their home. He volunteered his service as a lifelong amateur radio operator to the community, including founding the local Skywarn chapter and teaching Amateur Radio Licensure courses through the local radio club. He also maintained the local amateur radio repeater system for several years. John was an active member of the Ritz Theater for years, bringing joy and laughs to the community. John also had his private pilots license.

John enjoyed fishing, whether it was in their backyard pond or at Walloon Lake in Michigan, a favorite vacation spot for he and Lisa. A student of Civil War and Great Lakes history, John maintained an extensive library and was always willing to discuss these topics with anyone. Always willing to open his home to family and friends, there was never a stranger at the pond or a Walker bonfire. Quick with a joke, and a fantastic storyteller, John's legacy can best be summed up by his son's statement, "he is a legend."

The family is so thankful for the anonymous kidney donor who gave John nine more years of loving time with his family. The family would like to thank Dr. Stephen Bruhl, Dr. Christopher Sears, Dr. Balhinder Brar, Shirley Enders Welter, and all the nursing and ICU staff who cared so deeply for John. The family appreciates all the thoughts and prayers from friends and family during this difficult time.

A private family service will take place in the future.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that interested parties donate to St. Jude Cancer Research Center, a lifelong charity of the Walker family.
