Joyce M. Brickner

Joyce M. Brickner, 89, of Fremont, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at Bethesda Care Center.

She was born Oct. 31, 1933, in Toledo, to Julius S. and Julia M. (Torok) Molnar. She was a 1951 graduate of Bradner High School. Joyce graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in 1954 with a Registered Nursing degree.

Joyce married Gerard "Jerry" N. Brickner on Sept. 3, 1955, at St. Michael's Church, Gibsonburg, and he preceded her in death Aug. 7, 2014. Joyce worked as a registered nurse at H.J. Heinz Company, where she retired after over 19 years of service.

Joyce did a lot of volunteer work in the area. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Post #121, Rosary Alter Society of the Sacred Heart, and Past President of Plant-N-Bloom. She was Past President of Ohio State Association of Occupational Health Nurses and was also a member of American Czech and Slovak Dance Club, Millbury. She loved to travel, sew, and garden. Joyce was well-known for her Hungarian cooking, especially her cabbage rolls (pigs in a blanket) and pastries.

Joyce is survived by her children, Michael (Marcy) Brickner of Fremont, Patricia A. Montgomery of Toledo, and Gregory G. Brickner of Fremont; siblings, Marilyn K. Kimmet of Prescott, Arizona, Julianne H. Foos of Maricopa, Arizona, and Barbara L. (Melvin) Kane of Appleton, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Nicholas Montgomery Sr., Adam (Andrea) Montgomery, and Rayanne (Dashawn) Mitchell; and great-grandchildren, Nicholas Jr., Lili, Cora, and Emerson.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerard "Jerry" N. Brickner; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Gerald Kimmet and Kenneth Foos.

Visitation will be 2-6 p.m. Monday, March 20, 2023, at Wonderly Horvath Hanes Funeral Home and Crematory, 425 E State St., Fremont.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 550 Smith Rd., Fremont.

Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
