Karen Louise Wellman
Karen Louise Wellman, 78, of Tiffin, passed away peacefully in the evening Monday, January 27, 2025, with her family by her side.
Karen was born August 9, 1946, in Tiffin to George and Dorothy (Graham) Whitmer. Karen married John Louis Wellman on October 19, 1963.
Karen attended Tiffin Columbian High School and earned a degree at Tiffin University. During her teenage years, she worked at Jolly's. Later, when her children were grown, she worked at Rodger's Flowers, Wayne Griffin Realty, Good Shepherd Home, United Way, and Job and Family Services until she retired.
Karen is survived by her husband of 61 years, John L. Wellman, of Tiffin; daughter, Debra (Keith) Swain of Jackson; son, John P. (Tammy) Wellman of Fremont; siblings, Audrey (Frank) Callahan, Charlotte (Jeff) Scott and Garry (Melissa) Whitmer; grandchildren, Danielle Meyer (Ted) Foecking of Seven Hills, Olen Queen of Mason, West Virginia, Brandon Queen of New London, Nicholas Wellman of Tiffin, Chelsea Wellman of Portland, Oregon, John L. Wellman II of Fremont and Robert (Lidia) Meyer of Sierra Vista, Arizona; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, George and Dorothy Whitmer; and two brothers, Darrell Whitmer and Lonny Whitmer.
Karen lived life to the fullest. She loved her family deeply and her cat, Selma. She had a great sense of humor and loved to create memories. She liked to travel, including visiting 48 of the U.S. states with her husband and visited all the presidents home. She was very patriotic. She also loved photography of which she captured all these memories.
Karen also enjoyed writing and had several pieces published in "The Good Years"!. She journaled every vacation. She made several trips with her brother, Darrell in a semi-truck along the East and West Coasts. Karen went on a mission trip to Mexico, "Medicine for Mexico" where she helped log and organize medicines and patient information in a health clinic. She loved her music and playing the piano and spent a great deal of time doing genealogy. Family was important to Karen.
Karen was a social and loving person. She made many friends and cherished close friendships. Karen embraced her individuality and liked her jewelry, even up to her final days.
Karen was an active member of First Christian Church. She loved Jesus and believed in God's promises. Her family will deeply miss that beautiful smile and heart full of love. Sunrises, sunsets, lighthouses, and trains. We will meet again.
Her Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, February 3, 2025, at First Christian Church, 2016 S. CR 19, Tiffin, Ohio 44883, with the Rev. Douglas DeVos officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
Friends may visit with family from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025, and from 10 a.m. until time of the service Monday at the church.
