Kari McFarlan Obituary

Kari Sue McFarlan

Kari Sue McFarlan, 51, of Tiffin and formerly of Weston and Bowling Green, joined her loving parents in Heaven on Wednesday, Jan. 24, 2024.

She was born July 22, 1972, in Tiffin, the third daughter of Dr. Edward M. McFarlan and Marthella (Campbell) McFarlan. The mold was broken after she was made.

Kari was a free spirited, adventurous person. She played ponytail softball and was a 4-H member for many years (unfortunately, cooking was not one of the projects that she stuck with). She enjoyed creating "concoctions" when she cooked and also liked to craft. She was a 1990 graduate of Tiffin Columbian High School and Sentinel Career Center Cosmetology Program. For the next 30 years, Kari beautified, gave crazy hair colors to, and made many friends while working at Fiesta Hair Salon as a manager and Hairways in Bowling Green. From the time she was in junior high, Kari was a night owl. She often worked late nights to accommodate the schedules of her clients. She could sell a bald man shampoo. Kari truly enjoyed giving life advice to and learning from the college students. She treasured her many clients who became close friends and maintained contact with her, especially Lori and James, Rose, Billie and Pat, Sandy, Lori and Chris. Life dealt Kari a blow with Thyroid Disease, which eventually limited her ability to work. She escaped death three times, but her cat, Harper, was her encouragement to push on. In 2022, Kari returned to Tiffin and thoroughly loved the view from her "Penthouse Suite" on the top floor at Kiwanis Manor.

She leaves behind her sister, Elisabeth "Beth" McFarlan-Hutson and favorite brother-in-law, Clark Hutson of Tiffin; and sister, Amy McFarlan of Grove City.

Kari was preceded in death by her parents; and grandparents.

Kari was a very compassionate person who always had a big heart. She enjoyed helping people when she was able, even if she didn't have much to give. Because she was so passionate about her career in cosmetology, as a tribute to her life-long work, memorials may be made to Sentinel Career and Technology Center Cosmetology department or Senior Community Center of Kiwanis Manor Bus Fund.

Kari's wishes were to be cremated. There will be a private burial service with a celebration of life on her birthday weekend, in Tiffin.

So sad to hear about Kari's passing, she was the only hairdresser I had until she couldn't work, we always had a great time sharing while she did my hair. I miss her dearly. Prayers for her family during this time of sorrow.

I am so sorry for your loss. May she finally be at peace with no pain. She was truly the best at her profession and had such a passion that most will never know. I had the pleasure of having her in my life for many years and I will never forget the many lessons she taught me. May god guide you through your painful journey for the loss of a sibling. Sending strength to both of you- Beth and Amy.

Okay, Kari, this has knocked the breath right out of me. So sick, so many times, but who could think this would really happen to one still so young? So wish your health could have cooperated as you loved your Harper and you were both enjoying life on the 10th floor! Well now you've traveled a but higher and life, as promised, will be a beautiful eternity. Enjoy Mom and Dad as I know you will. Beth has promised to carry on the lies, telling me how beautiful my hair is and that it is not thinning. Maybe I never said it, but I love you little lady. Thanks for all you did for me.
