Kathryn M. "Kate" Van Horn

Kathryn M. Van Horn, 88, of Tiffin, passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 27, 2022, at Stein Hospice Care Center, Sandusky.

She was born June 9, 1934, in New Lexington, Ohio, to Norville F. and Freda P. (Hudson) Elkins. She married Samuel J. Van Horn on Aug. 2, 1952, and he preceded her in death in 2004.

Kate's survivors include four sons, Mark A. (Jill) Van Horn of Macedonia, Scott B. (Jeannie) Van Horn of Newton Falls, and Matthew S. (Sara) Van Horn and Paul D. (Sharon) Van Horn, both of Tiffin; sister, Geraldine L. Cass of Heath; five grandchildren, Jaclyn, Brittany, Rachel, Luke, and Mark; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jeramiah, Sierra, Ruby, Eliza, Noelle, Sloane, Ellis, Claire, Emmitt, and Kenna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers, Clarence P. Elkins, Max Elkins, Donald L. Elkins; and sisters, Mary Lou Hooper and Wanda Hetich.

Kate was graduate of New Lexington High School in 1952, worked at Tiffin Glass House, and later for Seneca County Welfare Office for over 20 years, retiring as a Social Service Specialist. She volunteered for CASA, transported rescue and therapy dogs, and was a foster parent. After retiring, she wintered in Florida for over 10 years. She loved animals, especially her Chihuahua.

A celebration of life will be at a later date. She will be buried with her family at Grandview Cemetery in Breman, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seneca County Humane Society or Stein Hospice Care.
