Lois Wolber Obituary

Lois E. Wolber

After fighting a long battle with dementia, Lois Ellen Wolber, 85, of Ada, went home to be with her heavenly Father on Monday, June 17, 2024, while surrounded by family at Mennonite Memorial Home, Bluffton.

Lois was born Feb. 5, 1939, to George and B. Oleta (Dible) Burks. She was the seventh of 12 children. She was a cheerleader at McCutchenville High School where she graduated in 1956. The love of her life was Jerry Wolber. They met through letters written to each other while Jerry was serving in Korea. Lois would often excitedly recount the story of when Jerry came to meet her while she worked at the bank. They were married June 23, 1957, after only two months of dating. They celebrated 67 years of marriage together.

Lois was a proud mother of seven children, Jerry Ronald Wolber II, George (Stacy) Wolber, Eric Wolber, Fred (Vickie) Wolber, Mindy (Lyle) Jolliff, Melissa (Todd) Klingler, and Dee (Kent) Everhart, all of Ada. She was a beloved grandmother to 22 grandchildren and great-grandmother to 44 great-grandchildren. She was a permanent fixture at her loved ones' ball games. Her cheering and yodeling could be easily picked out from the crowd. At times, she would feed the entire team after a game.

Lois was truly one of a kind. Even while struggling with dementia, Lois remained positive, bubbly, and giggly. She brightened the day of any person that she encountered through her infectious laughter, silly yet hard-to-follow stories, and delicious cooking. Faith and family were the most important aspects of Lois' life, both of which will be her legacy.

She showed her love through cooking, hosting large family dinners with all her best recipes. Chicken, mashed potatoes, sweet corn, applesauce, noodles, and baked beans were among her staples. She also loved to make special treats, Rice Krispies, frosted graham crackers, and her infamous "banana stuff."

Her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was very important to her. Lois and Jerry spent many years with evangelist Wayne and Hattie Nelson traveling to different churches spreading the gospel through teaching and music. Lois and Hattie would teach the young children Bible stories and was fondly known as "Grandma" to everyone. She will be loved, remembered, and missed by so many.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and B. Oleta (Dible) Burks; two sons, Jerry Ronald Wolber II and Eric Joseph Wolber; grandson, Daniel James Klingler; two great-grandsons, Alexander David West and Zy'on E'mond Bedford; and eight siblings.

Lois' funeral was 12 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024, at Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada. Burial was at Hasson Cemetery, Jenera.

Visitation was 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Bridge Hospice, 15100 Birchaven Lane, Findlay, Ohio, 45840, or Mennonite Memorial Home, 410 West Elm Street, Bluffton, Ohio, 45817.

The family would like to recognize and thank the staff at Mennonite Memorial Home of Bluffton and Bridge Hospice of Findlay for the exceptional, loving care they provided mom.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Hanson-Neely-Allison Funeral & Cremation Services, Ada.

Aunt Lois holds a special place in my heart. Her laughter and fun spirit is so infectious. I remember one of her visits to Arizona and going for a walk with her around the neighborhood. She found some petunias and thought they were so beautiful. She leaned down to smell them and came up sputtering saying “those are the stinkiest flowers I have ever smelled”. We could not stop laughing and she giggled along with us:). Her nickname became Aunt Petunia after that. She will be greatly missed.

She was a light that couldn't be hidden from the world. I find peace with the notion that she is now sharing stories with her Lord and Savior and I am sure she will get a "well done my good and faithful servant" from him come judgement day.
She always laughed at my jokes. . . even when I was pretty sure she didn't "get" them.
Aunt Lois is also the reason I add brown sugar to just about everything I cook. I don't remember or know why but it sure makes it taste good.
I know the tears I shed today and over the next days and weeks are for myself and the others she left behind. I love that lady.

Mrs Wolber was a part of my childhood. Being neighbors and friends with her boys, I would be at there house playing baseball with George and Eric thru the summers. Remember all the little league games that you knew who she was cheering for every game. Her voice could not be ignored or not heard cheering us all on. To Jerry and the family: Lois was one of the sweetest ladies I knew. I have many fond memories and my heart goes out to you all. The Lord received an Angel.

Aunt Lois was one of my all time favorite people! She always made you feel loved and welcome! I have many fond memories of spending time with her and uncle Jerry both at the farm house and when they built the new house! One of my favorite things was picking dandelions with Erica Jo so that she could cook them up!! She will always have a spot in my heart and will be truly missed!! My love and prayers go out to her children and uncle Jerry during this difficult time !
