Melvin D. “Mel” Smith passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at the age of 76. Mel was the loving husband of Mary Rieman-Smith for 26 years; father of Melvin “Ozzie” Smith (Bridget) and Todd Smith (Bridget); devoted grandfather of Abby, Wil, Sam, Jocelyn, Lorelei, Wyatt, Mykayla, Aidan, Lia, Jacob, and Mila; stepfather of Chad Minnich (Kayla) and the late Danny Minnich; and brother of Lillie Hiltenbeitel (John), Jeanette Thaler (Ray), Tom Smith (Wanda), and Debbie Grubbs (the late Larry). He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Mel dedicated 50 years of his life to the HVAC profession, a career in which his skill and work ethic were unmatched. He was known for his ability to fix anything, his quick wit, and his friendly disposition. In addition to his professional life, Mel was a man who had a zest for simple pleasures. He could often be found on a golf course, cheering on his beloved Cincinnati Reds, or simply enjoying a cold beer or margarita with a side of chips and salsa. Mel was a master woodworker, creating beautiful pieces that will be cherished for generations. He also spent many years enjoying the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle. Above all, Mel’s greatest joy was his family, particularly his grandchildren whom he adored. He will be missed tremendously by all blessed enough to have known him.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 5th from 12:00PM until time of Funeral Service at 1:30PM both at Mihovk-Rosenacker Funeral Home 5527 Cheviot Road (45247). In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.

Mel was a great guy, always smiling. Years ago, we had lots of good times riding our motorcycles on Sundays in the country with the gang.
